Anorexia

It’s not about weight

But a broken heart

When the pain came too great

Did the starving start

You’re full of self hate

So you start losing weight

At an incredible rate

Till you’re a terrible state

But by then it’s too late

And you’re at death’s gate

You’re drowning in tears,

Self-hatred and pain

But it appears

You can only remain

Trapped by your fears:

A binding chain

You want to be free

But it’s dragging you under

In a stormy sea

You’re starting to wonder

If someone hears your plea

Through the lightning and thunder

The chain is so strong

Can it ever break?

You can’t last long

There’s not much you can take

There’s nowhere to hide

‘Cause the fight is inside

So often you’ve cried,

Wished that you’d died

But you know you must keep on trying

If only to stop yourself dying

And live to see

What it’s like to be free.
