Spring Came Home Today

Spring came home today and hung her hat on the tree. She smiled at her sky blue reflection in the hall puddles, then rolled up her sleeves and set to work cleaning up the mess that her houseguest, Winter, who’s welcome is beginning to wear thin, has been busily making. She set the snowdrifts on the back burner to melt, and cleared the cobwebs out of the cupboards. She wiped dust from the sun’s fixtures and polished the windows with her warm hands. Twittering and chirping as she toiled, she rinsed out the gardens and hung her blankets out to air. She deftly plumped up the couch pillows then moved on to smooth the lines of stress and worry from countless brows. She put the smiles in the window to bloom and weeded out the glares. Winter watched sullenly, plotting his next storm, but sat in silence knowing that Spring would not tolerate him much longer. For now, she contentedly ignored him, blowing through the wind chimes and refilling the hummingbird feeders. She glanced up from her work to see the neighbor ladies passing by, chattering eagerly, and waved a greeting to a little girl, jumping rope determinedly in a fit of Spring’s fever. Smiling, Spring returned to the task of her cleaning. She still had so much to do before Summer dropped in for a visit.
